From Rap, a musical style claiming its return as a social and cultural instrument in this Global Village we live in, surfing through Pop Rock, Samba, Funk, Afrobeat, Reggae and a strong jazzy influence, the band takes you on a real musical trip where harmonies are the only boundaries for creative possibilities. Simba met the Rocats was born in early 2007 when members from “The Rocats”, a Maputo based dub band, joined forces with Simba, a solo Rap artist, to create unique and distinctive sounds that could, in a certain way, challenge your common musical language. The group went to a studio to compose new songs and right after that they started “touring” the town, playing in some small and often big venues with friends and other bands. It did not took them long to start shaping their identity and so the band was invited to perform in South Africa for the first time in July 2007. Following the success of the first gig they were invited to perform at the Oppikoppi festival and at the UMOJA Africa New year Concert. Adding a strong visual identity (video projections) to their shows, the band’s performances are always filled with entertainment – this Pretoria concert is not to be missed !! Puisant leur principale source d’inspiration dans le Rap, un style musical devenu un instrument social et culturel dans ce village globalisé où nous vivons, et surfant aussi aux lisières du Pop / Rock, de la Samba, du funk, de l’Afrobeat et du Reggae, sans oublier bien sûr une forte influence jazz, ce groupe vous offrira un véritable voyage musical où l’harmonie reste la seule frontière de la création. Simba Met the Rocats est né début 2007 quand les membres de The Rocats, un groupe Dub basé à Maputo, s’est adjoint les forces d’un chanteur Rap, Simba, afin de créer un son unique et distinct qui pourrait bien, dans une certaine mesure, questionner vos habitudes musicales… Le groupe a pris le chemin du studio pour y enregistrer de nouveaux morceaux et, juste après, a commencé à écumer la ville pour y jouer sur toutes les scènes, grandes et petites, en compagnie d’autres musiciens ou non. Il ne leur a pas fallu bien longtemps pour se créer une identité propre et le groupe a rapidement été invité à jouer en Afrique du Sud, en juillet 2007, et après ce premier concert et son succès, c’est le festival Oppikoppi qui les a d’abord programmés, puis le UMOJA Africa New year Concert. Ils ajoutent une forte coloration visuelle à leurs concerts (projections vidéo), donnant ainsi à chacune de leurs apparitions une tendance festive indéniable – ne manquez surtout pas ce concert !!
