Synopsis : Faire des bénéfices ou rester moral ? La question est d’autant plus critique pour une société comme Nokia lorsqu’elle déplace sa production en Chine, là où la main d’œuvre est bon marché. Son « spécialiste en civilité » visite alors l’usine chinoise pour voir comment est organisé leur fournisseur et surtout pour essayer de remédier aux conséquences de la délocalisation : corruption, droits de l’homme bafoués, hygiène et logement négligés. Mais qu’est-ce qu’une entreprise comme il faut ? Si les multinationales essaient depuis peu de se doter d’une nouvelle image éthique, la question de la responsabilité sociale étendue aux sous-traitants reste l’un des grands défis de la mondialisation.

Can companies make a profit and still be principled ? The question becomes a critical one for Nokia when it outsources its production to China and cheap labour. The company’s ethical management consultant’ visits the Chinese factory to inspect conditions at the plant with an eye on solving the problems caused by relocation : corruption, flouted human rights, and substandard health and housing. But what is a decent factory ? Although the multinationals have recently set about creating a new ethical image, social responsability extended to subcontractors remains one of the main challenges of globalisation.
