Leader of the “Canopy raft” project

Specialized in the study of trees and forests from the humid Tropics, Professor Hallé was teaching botany at the University of Montpellier (France) from 1971 to 1999. Leader of the “Canopy Raft” Projects for the biological exploration of rainforest canopies from 1986 to 2003, he has written several books in French and English : Tropical Trees and Forests, an architectural analysis” (1978), “The canopy raft” (2000), “In praise of plants” (2002).

Francis Hallé est botaniste, spécialisé dans l’étude des arbres et des forêts des régions tropicales. Professeur à l’Université de Montpellier de 1971 à 1999, chef des missions du « Radeau des Cimes » sur la canopée tropicale de 1986 à 2003. Il a publié plusieurs livres destinés au grand public : Eloge de la plante (1999), Le Radeau des Crimes (2000) et Plaidoyer pour l’arbre (2005).

- Interview/ Debate of Simao Kikamba, author of « Going Home » (Herman Charles Bosman Award , 2006) Simao Kikamba, born in Northern Angola, raised in Zaire, emigrated in South Africa, French speaking writer, in between three cultures, touches on his novel the topics of displacement… “Having lived in exile for most of his life, Kikamba considers his writing as a journey of self-discovery in his constant search for an identity. In her review of Going Home, Karen Whitty noted Kikamba’s “ability to tell it as it is”, while finding his style “engaging as it is poised”
