The DALF is an improvement in order to go to university. The student having a DALF is capable of efficiently following courses given in a French university in the specialty he has chosen. For that matter, the student does not have to take a language test to enter into a French university.
The DELF first and second degrees, as well as the DALF, are made of units which can be obtained in one or more countries. There is no time limit to take these exams. Each unit is of about a hundred hours of learning and is sanctioned by an achievement attestation. After getting a certain amount of units, you can then claim for the corresponding diploma.
To register for the DALF, you must have passed the 2nd degree of the DELF or you must take a language proficiency test. Be aware ! this test is not a diploma, it is therefore not equivalent to the 2nd degree of the DELF.
