Opening on Friday 12th June at 6 pm
The Alliance Française of Johannesburg is proud to invite you to the new exhibition "Paris to Maputo" by Amanda van Wyngaardt.

Amanda van Wyngaardt matriculated at Die Kruin (now the National School of Arts) and was awarded Best Student in Design and Photography of 1990. She then studied B.A. Fine Arts specialising in Information Design at the University of Pretoria, where she participated in numerous student exhibitions. After her studies she took a sabbatical au-pairing in France, studying French and travelling. Upon her return she worked as graphic designer and web designer in Johannesburg and then Aspen, USA. Thereafter she was a communicator for a NGO for a couple of years. Missing the creative field, she then moved on to the film industry, starting off as props buyer and working her way up to become Art Director. In 2007 she won a SAFTA (South African Film and Television Award) for Best Art Directing in a TV drama. Since 2007 she’s been Décor Writer and Stylist for the best selling décor magazine in South Africa, called Tuis & Home. She won an internal award for Best Cover of 2007, as well as the quarterly Award for Best Cover within Media 24, the holding company which publishes over 60 magazines.
Throughout her career, art remained her first love – painting for creative expression as well as commissioned work. Her first one man exhibition is the natural outflow of her lifelong passion. Her art is expressionistic in style, depicting favourite places and people, often with a sense of longing. Although she appreciates confrontational art, she sees her paintings as a good friend - someone you should enjoy spending time with, dream with and live with.
