« Itinerary of a jazz child »

Mario Canonge is exploring the richness of his native culture with mixing music and songs. Behind the basic “square” form of the “beguine” or the “salsa” usually played for dancers, Mario Canonge is creating a brilliant jazz, spicy, joyful. He his musically polyglot, flying lightly from “cha cha” to evangelic lyrics, from the tasty “bolero” to the strong and energetic spirit of “mazurka”.
With him, the refusal of norms and horizontal uses, the love of multiplicity and rebounds, his instinct, his “Creole” intelligence is creating in his music a delicious vibration like a “metis” dream.
Mario Canonge began his career at the age of fifteen. He was playing organ in Sainte-Therese church. Two years later, he was touring in the Caribbean islands with the « Iles du Vent » chorale.
Today, Mario Canonge has a heavy background behind him : He his part, in the beginning of the eighties of La Manigua (salsa band). Co fonder of the band Ultramarine in 83, Mario Canonge is distinguished by receiving the first price of the festival de la Defense piano’s contest. Mario CANONGE is now an established artist in the European jazz and world music concert and festival circuit.
