"Home" by Yann Arthus-Bertrand

To celebrate the World Environment Day 2009, the Alliance Française of Johannesburg invites you to the screening of "Home", a movie directed by Yann Athus-Bertrand.

Yann Arthus-Bertrand, chairman of the non-profit organization GoodPlanet, has been officially designated as the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Goodwill Ambassador for a renewable period of two years.

This nomination is a recognition of Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s achievements in advancing environmental awareness through educational programs and through his TV documentaries ’Earth from Above’ for the French public television, broadcasted in 40 countries.

Today, with six others laureates, Yann Arthus-Bertrand will also receive an Earth Champion Award in a ceremony held in Paris. Established in 2004 by the United Nations Environment Programme, this annual award honours individuals who have made a significant contribution to the protection of the Earth’s environment.

As Goodwill Ambassador of the UNEP, Yann Arthus-Bertrand will publicize the initiatives of this international organization. He will also be invited to visit and support local initiatives.

« It’s too late to be pessimistic. It is time to act. With UNEP, I want to help those who act. Becuse we all need good examples », said Yann Arthus-Betrand, after his nomination.

UNEP, established in 1972, is the voice for the environment within the United Nations system. UNEP acts as a catalyst, advocate, educator and facilitator to promote the wise use and sustainable development of the global environment. To accomplish this, UNEP works with a wide range of partners, including United Nations entities, international organizations, national governments, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and civil society. GoodPlanet is an NGO founded in 2005 by Yann Arthus-Bertrand to raise public awareness on environmental issues and to suggest answers to the ecological crisis. www.goodplanet.org
