Opening on Tuesday 15 April from 6.30 pm
Opening speech by Wendy Luhabe

This exhibition will be part of the visual discourse supporting the social reconstruction of identity- a concept that can not be encapsulated in a single definition.

In keeping with the changing of the social conditions of women since the 1960’s, in which this transformation has materialized in various ways, including a greater role and autonomy for women in society, assertive stakeholders in politics and governments, a marked participation in the labor market, a significant contribution to household incomes and sometimes heading households, and the emergence of movements promoting sexual equality.

IDENTITY is indirectly the biographical metaphorical approach to demystify stereotypical concepts of women, and drawing on the new social role of women, it will present that women are active, intense beings free of the contemplative passivity that pervades traditional images.
