Let’s take a walk...

Theater Performance "Let’s take a walk" on Friday 15th May from 6:30 pm

In association with Kliptown Youth Program (KYP) and Le Printemps des Comédiens in Montpellier (France), the Alliance Française of Johannesburg is proud to present the first representation of "Let’s take a walk" at the Alliance Française in Parkview !

"Let’s take a walk" is a theater performance created by Ricky Bopape and artists from Kliptown (Soweto) about South Africa.

South Africa recognises diversity and numbers 11 official languages. It is an emerging country where the young have a lot to say and give. “Let’s take a walk” will take us through the different South African provinces and traverse through time. The origins of the Gumboots dance will lead us to the theme of the work in the mines and the life in the hostels where the miners lived. Furthermore this will provoke us to bring up the issue of Apartheid, the daily life of the slums and the cultural identity of each artist.

About the project During its visits in Kliptown 2008 the team of the Printemps des Comedians selected four Gumboots dancers to participate in the festival in June 2009 in Montpellier. The selection of the other participants was made by the administrators and active members of the KYP. They had the desire to mix people from different origins, experiences and needs, from different positions in the south African society, and particularly within the KYP association. Here is born Let’s a take a walk...
