On Friday 07 August, the Alliance Française of Stellenbosch held their first Masked Ball, an occurrence to become an annual event, at Devonvale Golf Estate. The hype during the build-up ensured a visit from, Laurent Croset, the outgoing Delegate General of the Alliance Francaise Southern Africa and also, Antoine Michon, the incoming French Consulate.
With people dressed, masked and the venue draped, it was an evening to rival the masked ball of Vienna and anybody would be excused for mistaking Devonvale for St Marks Square. Prizes were given for best dressed and lucky plate ranging from French Champagne and South African Cap Classique to weekends away at exclusive wine farms.
Devonvale Golf Estate stood up to be countered by serving a sumptuous three course meal starting with a traditional French onion soup and finished off with a French dessert, “crepe” filled with chocolate, sliced banana and caramel.
All those that were fortunate enough to attend the inaugural Alliance Francaise Masked Ball have committed themselves to ensure an invite for next year’s event, keep a look out and ensure you are part of this exciting and special event next year.
