Reunion on screen

“Reunion on screen”

"Reunion on screen" is offered along as a moment of encountering between professionals of the audiovisual industry from Reunion Island and South Africa, as well as between the South African public and the musical culture of the Reunion Island, through the screening of a documentary portraying the famous « Maloya » singer, Danyel Waro.

The film explores Danyel Waro’s art through three of the most emblematic musical instruments of Maloya. By using each of these instruments, the Reunionese singer conveys us to a broad discovery of the culture of Reunion Island. He explains his commitment to the Creole language and outlines his political involvement. His poetry reflects patience, his words are simple yet demanding.

Both the director and the artist will be exchanging with the audience after the screening.

The public will also have the opportunity to discover, the variety and wealth in terms of landscapes and locations offered by the Island to audiovisual professionals, as well as in terms of audiovisual productions, thanks to the broadcasting of a best-of of the most recent productions by Reunion’s filmmakers. In the meantime, discussions will take place between South African and Reunionese professionals in order to explore ways of collaboration between the two countries, aiming to build a stronger audiovisual industry across the Indian Ocean.
