TARA, Trust for African Rock Sites
En collaboration avec l’Alliance Française de Nairobi, TARA a ouvert une exposition sur l’art rupestre de l’Afrique le 27 Février 2007. Cette exposition a été le point de départ d’une tournée pan-africaine couvrant 10 pays (Botswana, Tchad, Djibouti, Érythrée, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Swaziland, Tanzanie, Zimbabwe).
Cette exposition fut pour les visiteurs un véritable voyage à la découverte d’un patrimoine peu connu, semé d’informations pédagogiques sur l’histoire et l’évolution des cultures. A travers une série de photographies, l’exposition offrait au public de découvrir les différentes époques de l’art rupestre aux quatre coins du continent.

In conjunction with Alliance Francaise de Nairobi, TARA opened a multifaceted exhibition on Africa’s unique rock art heritage on Feb 27th 2007. This exhibition in Nairobi marked the beginning of a Pan-African tour covering ten countries (Botswana, Chad, Djibouti, Eritrea, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zimbabwe).
This multifaceted exhibition on Africa’s unique rock art heritage took visitors on a discovery voyage of this little-known heritage with important educational information on past history, past and present cultures. Through a series of photographic and informative panels, the exhibition features intrigued themes including a timeline giving a short sweeping introduction to the periods and styles of art from around the continent from the most ancient (about 27000 years old) to the most recent (the past few centuries), symbolism of rock art imagery and the challenges of conserving this cultural heritage.
