Test d’Evaluation de Français (TEF, eTEF, TEFaQ and eTEFaQ)

The Test d’Evaluation de Français (TEF) is a test elaborated by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCIP)

The TEF is an instant picture of your language skills in French. It can be either on paper or electronic version (eTEF).

The TEF is the 1st French test launched on the language market since 1998 and the 1st test also available electronically.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCIP) received the ISO 9001 certification (2000 version) for the conception and elaboration of the TEF.

The TEF is composed of two series of tests :

a) three compulsory papers (multiple choice questions) ;

b) two optional papers : written expression (2 topics), oral expression (2 topics).

The TEF is valid for 2 years.

The TEF is officially recognized by the French Ministry of Education. The candidates have to sit for the compulsory papers and the optional written expression paper. The candidates must obtain a minimum level of 5 at the written expression paper equivalent of level C1 of the Association Language Tester in Europe (ALTE).

The TEF is also recognized by the « Citoyenneté et Immigration Canada » (CIC), organism of the Federal Government of Canada, as only French Language Test allowed to evaluate the French language skills of candidate wishing to migrate to Canada (www.cic.gc.ca)

The Ministry of Immigration and the Cultural Communities of Quebec requires the TEFaQ or eTEFaQ which is an adaptation of the TEF, for a visa application to Quebec. For these tests, candidates are tested on their oral understanding and expression only.

A certificate of results is issued and valid for one year in case of visa application. If a candidate cannot present a TEFaQ certificate in they application, the Ministry of Immigration and the Cultural Communities of Quebec accepts to take into account the results of a candidate who took the TEF (compulsory and oral expression tests).
