Threads : the Making of by Laure Poinsot

In partnership with Moving Into Dance Mophatong, the Alliance Française of Johannesburg is proud to invite you to the 1st screening of the documentary by the French Driector Laure Poinsot "The Making of Threads".

Program :

> Documentary Screening "The Making o Threads" by Laure Poinsot

> Discussion presented by Khanyi Magubane (SABC) with Lebo Mashile, Sylvia Glasser, Laure Poinsot and dancers from Moving Into Dance

About the documentary...

"The making of THREADS", by the French filmmaker Laure Poinsot, follows up the genesis of Moving Into Dance Mophatong’s new creation which blends dance, poetry and music. Through rehearsals, discussions between the dancers, poet and choreographer as well as interviews, this 24 minutes documentary immerses the viewers into the creation process of this cross cultural and generational work dealing with gender relationships, cultural and artistic identity in South African society. The film captures the unprecedented encounter between two major South African artists, the pioneer choreographer Sylvia Glasser and the young iconic poet Lebo Mashile whose experience in different fields and their deep admiration for each other’s work has led to a unique blend of the imaginative and the real, the mature and the young, the language of dance and the movement of poetry. A mirror and challenge for today’s South Africa.

After the screening, the audience will have the opportunity to discuss with the artists about the choreography and the role of dance in South Africa. This viewing will be an ideal introduction to the performances of the full-length Threads at the Wits Theatre in Braamfontein on the 22nd and 24th October at 19h30.

Threads of new artistry wove magic… It was history in the making". (Edward Tsumele, The Sowetan Time Out, 31st October 2008)
