This Post-Gypsy Woodland War music is as fragile as it is mischievous. Through enchanting vocals, piano, bandoneon, xylophone, boots and bells, these two strange minstrels take on the personas of Jack and Peppercorn Frown, an inseparable brother and sister left orphaned by the fire that destroyed their home town. Miss Texas 1977 is a duo which was started by Gene Kierman , singer and guitarist, who draws on a long history of music- making, beginning with a classical background on French Horn, classical percussion and later, Rock drum set, folk and electric guitar and Appalachian fiddle playing in more recent times.
Miss Texas really started in spirit several years ago while Gene and his sister Frances were traveling in the Deep South. They lived in Texas for a year and then in California for almost a decade during which time they jammed with everyone from experimental prog rockers to aging fiddle maestros.

The music is woody and bare in that it primarily uses voices and guitar but it also leans into the rock genre with hypnotic electric guitar and emotive washes of vocal texture that speak of something new and indefinable.
The lyrics are sometimes intensely personal, other times purely visual and at other times profoundly poetic, but almost always dark.

The vocals of Miss Texas are fleshed out by the substantial natural talent of Miss Julia Merrett . A photographer by day and passionate musician by night, Julia is propelled by her lifelong love of music and background playing the violin. Her harmonies have been described as "clear and silver-sonic" as well as "hauntingly beautiful".
