Lo Rez : a uniquely South African-Argentinean collaboration. The Cape Town-based band offers a mesmerizing combination of musical styles including tango, jazz and electronica.
‘Our approach to Tango Electronico is rooted in Buenos Aires. Lo Rez has an authentic Argentinean flavor, daringly colored with jazz which is influenced by our experience of living in Cape Town,” says Gustavo Fasani, Argentine-born composer, pianist and bandoneon player.
Describing the bandoneon as resembling a large concertina but with a much deeper and melancholic sound, Fasani goes on to explain : ‘The bandoneon is deeply expressive, often saying more than is possible with words or other instruments’.
‘The sound of the trumpet brings electronic tango into a new sonic dimension. With Lo Rez we have achieved a musical form that is both authentic and new,’ adds Douglas Armstrong, trumpet and electronics.
