Consulate of France in Lesotho
Is responsible for the bilateral relations between the government of Lesotho and the Republic of France (liase with the Embassy of France for RSA & Lesotho, located in Pretoria)
Looks into the interests of the French citizens, register and keep record of all French citizens living in Lesotho
Attends to all matters regarding to the welfare of all French citizens residing and visiting Lesotho
Issues visa application forms and the list of visa application requirements
Assists in the filling of visa application forms and liase with the Consular General of France in the Republic of South Africa
Attends to all requests made by the people of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the government of France

GENERAL INFORMATIONS
1- The visa section of the French Consulate in Maseru.
The French Consulate in Maseru will provide, help and accept applications only from residents of Lesotho.
If you do not reside in Lesotho, you have to apply with another French Consulate, depending on where you live in RSA.

To apply for a visa, you have to come to our office and fill in the requested form, with all the necessary documents in original and a copy. The French Consulate in Lesotho will assist you to have an appointment to the Consulat Général de France in Johannesburg, to make easier not to stay more than one day and have your visa issued on the same day.
2- The differents kind of visas. WHICH VISA ?
The airport transit visa (A) allows you to transit through the international zone of a French airport without entering the Schengen space and France.
The transit visa (B) allows you to transit no more than 5 days through France and other Schengen countries (ie by car or coach..) on your way to another non Schengen country.
The short stay visa © allows you to go to France and the others Schengen states for tourism, business or family visits, up to a maximum of 90 days.
The circulation visa © is a short stay visa valid for at least a year. It is mainly issued for business visits in France.
The long stay visa (D) allows you to stay in France for more than 3 months, for example to study, work, retire…
3- Delays and procedure.
It is the responsability of the applicant to be aware of the delays and the requirements for the issuance of the visas before making travel arrangements and before applying for a visa. IN ORDER TO IMPROVE OUR SERVICES, TRY TO HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BY PHONE WITH OUR OFFICE.
Processing time : Please indicate on the form your date of departure
Short stay : An average processing time with a minimum of 2 weeks may be necessary. Therefore you can apply for this visa no earlier than 6 weeks before your departure.
Long stay : Expect an average delay of up to 3 months. It is the responsability of the requerant to be aware of the delays and the requirements for the issuance of the visas before making the travel arrangements and before applying for the visa. Note that neglecting to include a document or to fill out the forms properly may extend the processing time.
All the visas for France, Schengen visas if your 1st destination is Paris, for Monaco as a main destination, and for the French overseas departments and territories are issued by the Consulate of France in Johannesburg. All these forms are available at French Consulate in Maseru.
Citizens of the European Union and EEE, Liechtenstein, Monaco and the Holly See do not need a long stay visa for France and the French overseas departments. Citizens of Andorra, Switzerland and San Marino do not need a long stay visa for France only. A fortiori all these citizens do not require a short stay visa.
The applicant should contact the appropriate consulate depending on his/her residence and destination (refer to the list of the Consulates of France and jurisdictions in RSA)
French Consulate in Lesotho will help and assist you to fill in all the requested forms, to provide you an appointment to Consulat Général de France in Johannesburg and make easier to have your visa issued on the same day.
REMARKS : The Consular Administration has full authority to appreciate and request more documents than those submitted by the applicant. Note that the visa does not in itself grant you the right to enter a French territory. It is necessary that you carry the original documents used to obtain the visa with you at all times. Border authorities may request that you show them upon entry to France.
