Jazz Night

Cape Town, the South African ‘City of Jazz’, is home to many well-known jazzmen. Together with the Jazz in the Native Yards team, we aim at showcasing the many facets of Cape Town and international jazz, uniquely rich in its diversity and strong identity. In an intimate setting, we offer an opportunity to appreciate live music and a home-cooked meal, in respect and mindfulness of the performance. Jazz Night at Alliance Française du Cap is a seated concert for which booking is highly encouraged as seating charts and catering are planned based on reservations.

A regular event at Alliance Française du Cap, join us on the last Friday of the month! Kindly note that, exceptionally, the concert might be held on a different Friday due to public holidays or programme requirements.

Jazz in the Native Yards & Alliance Française du Cap present THE FRANK PACO ART ENSEMBLE, live!

Experience The Frank Paco Art Ensemble's Sub-Saharan Jazz with a line up that includes Thembi Ndujana (Piano and Vocals), Lucas Khumalo (Bass), Angelo Danster (Trumpet), and Frank Paco (Drums and Vocals).

An amalgamation of African pulsating rhythms and melodies spiced up with harmonic nuances and improvisation that best defines Jazz. Frank’s Sub-Saharan jazz concept is constantly evolving allowing room for collaborative expression with some of the finest musicians in the globe.

The Ensemble recently performed at the prestigious Opus Pocus Festival in Réunion Island.

Frank Paco began playing the drums at age 11 in Mozambique, where he gained performance experience with friends and school bands. He remembers having made his own drums and oil tin guitars as a child, as it was difficult to find musical instruments due to the oppression of the civil war, despite all adversities Frank managed to rise above and become a successful artist.

His impressive career includes highlights such as Nelson Mandela’s 46664 concert with some of the world’s greatest musicians such as Bono, Jimmy Cliff, Angelique Kidjo, Johnny Clegg, Peter Gabriel to mention a few…

Other International artists include: Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Jonathan Butler, Ronny Jordan (UK), Monique Bingham (USA), Joe McBride (USA) Ananda Project (USA) Nat Adderley Jr. (USA) Lokua Kanza (France/Congo) Papa Wemba (Fr/Cg) to mention a few…

Frank now leads his own project « Frank Paco Art Ensemble » with two album releases to date: Buyanini and New Horizons.

Expect a journey through modern, traditional and South-African Jazz suitable for all music lovers!
