Jazz Night

Cape Town, the South African ‘City of Jazz’, is home to many well-known jazzmen. In an intimate setting, we offer an opportunity to appreciate live music, in respect and mindfulness of the performance. Jazz Night at Alliance Française du Cap is a seated concert for which booking is highly encouraged as seating charts are planned based on reservations.

Jazz in the Native Yards & Alliance Française du Cap present Bongani Sotshononda & United Nations Of Africa, live!

Bongani Sotshononda is an acclaimed Chromatic Marimba/ Marimba Percussionist and composer. For the past twenty years, he has wowed audiences in the country and internationally. He performs on his own, with his marimba duet, trio and full marimba band.

His work includes collaborations with world-renowned vibraphonists like Stephon Harris (New York), Pascal Schumacher (Belgium), Magda de Vries (a classical Marimba player who now lectures in Japan) and the UCT Big band headed by professor Mike Campbell.

Some of the musicians he played with include the Brubeck Brothers, Morris Goldberg, Willie Van Zyl Haubrich, Shannon Mowday and many more. He also heads the ever popular Phambili Marimba and Brass Ensemble, Kalimbe and intsholo. He also co-produced and directed the opening ceremony of the World Association of Engineers at the CTICC in October 2005. Bongani has performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival with his 13 piece ensemble.
